Flooring quantity formulas
Net area = measured area + additional area − deductions.
Order area = net area × (1 + cutting allowance % ÷ 100).
Boxes = order area ÷ box coverage, rounded up.
Purchased coverage equals whole boxes multiplied by box coverage. Purchased pieces equal boxes multiplied by pieces per box. Material cost uses whole boxes; installation cost uses net measured area multiplied by the entered rate.
Scope: this tool is for boxed laminate, vinyl plank and hardwood products. It does not calculate carpet rolls, ceramic tile layouts, concrete floors, underlayment, transitions, baseboards, adhesives, subfloor repair, stairs, pattern matching, tax or delivery. Coverage and piece counts must come from the specific product label.

How to use the flooring calculator
- Measure the floor as a rectangle or enter an already measured area. Add only non-overlapping sections.
- Subtract areas that will not receive flooring, such as permanent built-ins, only when appropriate for the installation plan.
- Enter a cutting allowance suitable for the room and chosen layout. Zero returns only the measured requirement.
- Copy coverage and pieces per box from the exact product label; do not combine different products in one calculation.
- Enter the box price and optional installation rate in one currency, then compare the result with supplier minimums and return policies.
