Calculate your quantities
Enter your measurements below. Change the example allowance, product information and price to match your project.
Enter measurements and select Calculate.
Prices use your chosen currency. A zero price leaves cost at zero. Material estimates exclude labor, tax, delivery and accessories. Enter decimal feet, not feet-and-inches notation. Decimal point or comma accepted; omit thousands separators.
How to use this tile calculator
An area-based estimate for rectangular tiles, excluding grout-joint area. Pattern, cuts, breakage and nominal versus actual tile size affect quantities. Use supplier dimensions and choose your allowance. It does not generate a cut layout.
- Measure the relevant area or volume using the units shown beside each input.
- Replace example product values with the supplier's yield, coverage, density or pack quantity where applicable.
- Set the extra allowance explicitly. Enter zero when you want the geometric quantity without an allowance.
- Select Calculate, then compare the unrounded purchasing basis with whole bags, boxes or packs where displayed.
Formula
Room area = length × width. Tile area in ft² = tile length × tile width / 144. Tiles = room area × (1 + extra / 100) / tile area, rounded up. Boxes = tiles / tiles per box, rounded up.
Worked example
A 10 × 10 ft floor and 12 × 12 in tiles require 100 tiles before allowance. At 10% extra: 110 tiles. With 10 tiles/box, purchase 11 boxes.
Six calculated examples
Only the first length changes in this table. All other inputs use the calculator's reset values shown above. These are mathematical scenarios, not measured supplier quotes.
| First length | Calculated quantities |
|---|---|
| 5 ft | Area (ft²): 50; Pieces including allowance: 55; Packs to purchase: 6; Purchased pieces: 60 |
| 8 ft | Area (ft²): 80; Pieces including allowance: 88; Packs to purchase: 9; Purchased pieces: 90 |
| 10 ft | Area (ft²): 100; Pieces including allowance: 110; Packs to purchase: 11; Purchased pieces: 110 |
| 12 ft | Area (ft²): 120; Pieces including allowance: 132; Packs to purchase: 14; Purchased pieces: 140 |
| 15 ft | Area (ft²): 150; Pieces including allowance: 165; Packs to purchase: 17; Purchased pieces: 170 |
| 20 ft | Area (ft²): 200; Pieces including allowance: 220; Packs to purchase: 22; Purchased pieces: 220 |
Frequently asked questions
Does it include grout or adhesive?
No. Those products need separate coverage calculations.
Can I calculate wall tiles?
Yes. Use the rectangular wall's dimensions in the area fields.
Does a diagonal pattern need the same allowance?
Not necessarily. Set the allowance for your planned layout and available cuts.
Units and calculation limits
One foot is 0.3048 meters; one cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. Calculations retain precision until display; whole-package quantities are rounded up. Outputs estimate quantities from your measurements and assumptions. Confirm product coverage and units before ordering.
