Motorcycle Loan Calculator
Estimate a motorcycle payment from the out-the-door price, or work backward from a monthly-payment budget.
How this motorcycle loan calculator works
This tool separates the advertised motorcycle price from freight, dealer setup, accessories, riding gear, optional products, taxes and government or documentation fees. That distinction matters because financed add-ons increase both the amount borrowed and the interest paid. Use the first mode when you know the motorcycle price. Use the reverse mode when you know the monthly payment you want and need an estimated maximum base price.
Forward calculation: price to payment
The calculator first builds an estimated out-the-door amount:
Out-the-door estimate = motorcycle price + freight + setup + accessories + add-ons + estimated tax + other fees
Net trade equity is the trade-in value minus the balance still owed. Negative equity therefore increases the amount financed. The loan principal is:
Amount financed = out-the-door estimate − cash down − rebate − net trade equity
For a monthly rate r, principal P and n payments, the ordinary fixed-payment formula is payment = P × r ÷ [1 − (1 + r)−n]. When APR is zero, payment is simply principal divided by the number of months.
Reverse calculation: monthly budget to maximum bike price
The budget mode first converts the target monthly payment into the corresponding present loan principal at the entered APR and term. It then solves for the motorcycle price after accounting for all fixed charges, taxes, down payment, rebate and trade equity. This is an arithmetic ceiling, not a lender approval or affordability recommendation.
Checked example
For a US$12,000 motorcycle with US$600 freight, US$350 setup, US$800 of accessories, US$500 of optional add-ons and US$300 of other fees, the subtotal before tax is US$14,250. With a US$2,000 trade-in, US$500 still owed on it, a US$2,000 cash down payment, a US$250 rebate and a 7% tax assumption applied after the trade credit, estimated tax is US$857.50. The out-the-door estimate is US$15,407.50 and the amount financed is US$11,657.50. At 8.5% APR for 60 months, the payment is about US$239.17 and total loan interest is about US$2,692.79.
What to enter from a motorcycle quote
- Motorcycle price: the negotiated base price, not only the advertised monthly payment.
- Freight and setup: separate destination, assembly or preparation charges shown on the buyer’s order.
- Accessories and gear: financed luggage, protection parts, electronics, helmet or apparel only when included in the transaction.
- Optional add-ons: service contracts, GAP products, maintenance plans or other optional items. Enter zero when declining them.
- Trade-in value and payoff: the value credited by the dealer and the amount still owed. A payoff larger than the trade value creates negative equity.
- APR: use the disclosed annual percentage rate for the offer being compared. APR and the note interest rate can differ when mandatory credit charges are included.
Assumptions and limits
This calculator assumes a fixed-rate, fully amortizing loan with equal monthly payments and no balloon payment. It does not model simple-interest daily accrual between irregular payment dates, prepayment penalties, late fees, variable rates, mandatory insurance, maintenance, fuel, depreciation, licensing renewals or lender underwriting. Taxes and trade-in credits vary by jurisdiction, so the three tax options are editable assumptions rather than legal advice. Currency selection changes the label only and does not convert exchange rates.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau advises comparing the total loan cost rather than only the monthly payment and notes that optional add-ons increase the amount borrowed. Review the lender’s Truth in Lending disclosure for the final APR, finance charge, amount financed, payment schedule and total of payments before signing.
