Car Lease Calculator
Estimate a vehicle lease payment from negotiated price, residual value, money factor or APR, fees, tax and expected excess mileage.
Car lease formulas
- Adjusted capitalized cost: negotiated price + financed fees − down payment − trade credit − rebates.
- Residual value: MSRP × residual percentage.
- Monthly depreciation: (adjusted cap cost − residual value) ÷ lease months.
- Monthly finance charge: (adjusted cap cost + residual value) × money factor.
- Approximate APR equivalent: money factor × 2,400.
- Monthly payment: depreciation + finance charge + entered monthly-payment tax.
Example
For a $42,000 MSRP, $39,000 negotiated price, 58% residual, 36 months and a 0.002 money factor, the calculator first adjusts the cap cost for fees, rebates, trade credit and cash down. It then separates depreciation, finance and tax so the assumptions are visible.
Important limits
Lease contracts and taxes vary by lender and jurisdiction. This calculator assumes the entered tax rate applies to each base monthly payment. It does not model taxes collected upfront, taxes on incentives or cap reductions, disposition or purchase-option fees, wear charges, insurance, registration renewals, negative trade equity, refundable deposits returned later or dealer-specific rounding. Verify every figure against the lease worksheet before signing.
