Salary Calculator: Hourly, Monthly and Annual Pay

Salary calculator

Convert gross pay between hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly and annual amounts.

How the salary calculator works

The calculator first converts the entered pay frequency to an annual base amount. It then subtracts optional unpaid days, adds estimated overtime and adds an annual bonus or commission. Every displayed result is gross pay before taxes, insurance, retirement deductions and other withholding.

For hourly pay, the basic annual conversion is:

Annual base pay = hourly rate × regular hours per week × weeks per year

For an annual salary, the equivalent hourly amount is the adjusted annual gross pay divided by regular work hours for the year. Biweekly values use 26 pay periods and semimonthly values use 24. These schedules are not interchangeable.

Hourly, biweekly and semimonthly pay

  • Biweekly: one payment every two weeks, normally 26 payments per year.
  • Semimonthly: two payments each month, normally 24 payments per year.
  • Weekly: the annual amount divided by 52 for the comparison table.
  • Daily: adjusted annual gross divided by the estimated paid workdays entered.

Example

At $25 per hour, 40 regular hours per week and 52 workweeks per year, base gross pay is $52,000 annually, or about $4,333 monthly and $2,000 biweekly. Adding five overtime hours each week at 1.5 times the regular rate adds $9,750 before any unpaid-day adjustment or annual bonus.

How unpaid days and overtime are handled

An unpaid day is valued using the implied regular hourly rate and regular hours per workday. Overtime equals the implied hourly rate multiplied by overtime hours, the selected multiplier and workweeks. Overtime eligibility and calculation rules vary by worker classification, contract and jurisdiction; verify them before using the estimate for payroll.

Important limits

  • This is a gross salary converter, not a net-pay or paycheck tax calculator.
  • It does not apply federal, state, local or international tax rules.
  • Benefits, employer contributions, tips, irregular shifts and paid-leave policies are excluded unless represented in the inputs.
  • A salaried employee may not be eligible for overtime; entering overtime is an optional scenario, not a legal determination.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by regular weekly hours and paid workweeks. Then adjust for unpaid days, overtime and bonuses if applicable.

How do I convert annual salary to hourly pay?

Divide adjusted annual gross pay by regular annual work hours. With 40 hours per week and 52 weeks, annual hours equal 2,080.

Does monthly salary times 12 always equal annual salary?

It does for a fixed monthly amount before adjustments. Unpaid leave, overtime, bonuses and partial-year employment can change actual annual gross pay.

Does this calculator estimate take-home pay?

No. Take-home pay depends on taxes, location, filing status, benefits and deductions that are intentionally not guessed here.
