Coating, casting and mold volume tool
Epoxy Resin Calculator
Estimate mixed epoxy volume, resin and hardener portions, weight, whole kits, excess and cost for rectangular, round or known-area projects.
Epoxy resin formulas
rectangle volume = length × width × cured depth × quantity
circle volume = π × diameter² ÷ 4 × cured depth × quantity
purchase volume = net volume × (1 + allowance)
whole kits = ceiling(purchase volume ÷ mixed yield per kit)
The calculator applies the entered A:B ratio to purchase volume when the ratio is by volume, or to estimated mixed mass when the ratio is by weight. It does not convert a manufacturer’s weight ratio into a volume ratio because the separate component densities would be required.
Checked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Project | 48 × 24 in rectangle, 1/8 in cured depth, one pour |
| Allowance and density | 10% extra; 1.10 kg/L mixed density |
| Mix | 2:1 by volume |
| Kit | 1 US gal mixed yield; $80 per kit |
The project area is 8 ft². Net epoxy is 2.36 L; with 10% extra it is 2.60 L or 0.686 US gal. A 2:1 volume ratio gives about 1.73 L Part A and 0.87 L Part B. One 1-gallon kit is required, leaving about 1.19 L of nominal mixed capacity.
Limits and safe use
- Use finished inside dimensions for molds and an evidence-based average thickness for uneven coatings.
- Do not change a manufacturer’s mix ratio to match the calculator. Ratios by weight and by volume are not interchangeable unless the manufacturer explicitly says so.
- Nominal kit yield, component density and mixed density vary by product. Enter the actual values from the technical data.
- The estimate does not model shrinkage, exotherm, porous-surface absorption, seal coats, embedded objects, displacement, bubbles or spillage beyond the entered allowance.
- Whole-kit rounding assumes unopened kits cannot be split for purchasing. Actual packaging and regional labeling may differ.
