Concrete Driveway Calculator: Yards, Bags and Cost

Concrete Driveway Calculator

Estimate driveway area, concrete, whole bags, ready-mix, subbase, forms, joints and cost.

Driveway dimensions
Measure along the finished surface.
Slope, joints and aggregate subbase
Optional. Length must be measured along the surface.
Planning count only.
Bags, ready-mix, trucks and cost
Optional planning input; local scope and prices vary.

Use actual bag yield and delivered supplier quotes. Costs exclude taxes, permits, reinforcement, demolition and short-load fees unless included in your rates.

Concrete to order
Total paved area
Whole bags
Bag / ready-mix project cost
Edge forms
Interior joints
Subbase order
Slope from entered rise
Truck capacity equivalents
Concrete-only cost

How to calculate concrete for a driveway

Select a straight, tapered, circular or measured-area layout. Enter finished surface dimensions and slab thickness. Add an independently measured apron or extension only when it is not already included in the main geometry.

Formulas

Straight area = length × width. Tapered area = length × (start width + end width) ÷ 2. Circular area = centerline radius × angle in radians × width. Concrete volume = total area × thickness. The allowance applies once before bags, ready-mix and truck capacity are calculated.

Checked example

A 60 × 12 ft driveway at 5 in thick has 720 ft² of area and 300 ft³ of concrete. With 10% extra, order 330 ft³ = 12.222 yd³ or 550 bags at 0.60 ft³ each. A 4 in subbase with 15% extra needs 10.222 yd³, approximately 14.31 short tons at 1.40 short tons/yd³.

Important limits

  • This calculator estimates quantities; it does not select slab thickness, strength, reinforcement, subgrade treatment, drainage, slope, joints or code compliance.
  • Surface length is measured along the finished driveway. Elevation change is used only to report approximate grade and angle; it does not change the entered surface area.
  • Joint counts are planning values. Type, depth, timing, isolation, reinforcement continuity and layout require project specifications.
  • Subbase density, compaction, waste, bag yield, ready-mix minimums, delivery, taxes and truck access must be confirmed locally.
  • The cost comparison includes only the editable concrete, subbase and labor inputs. Demolition, excavation, forms, reinforcement, finishing, sealing, permits and drainage are not added automatically.
