Prayer Time Calculator: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha

Prayer time calculator

Estimate Fajr, sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha from a date, coordinates and UTC offset. Choose the convention and Asr shadow factor used by your community.

North is positive; south is negative.
East is positive; west is negative.
Include daylight-saving time yourself; e.g. New York is −4 in summer, −5 in winter.

How the prayer times are calculated

The calculator estimates the Sun’s declination and equation of time from the Julian date. Solar noon is then 12 + UTC offset − longitude ÷ 15 − equation of time. Sunrise and sunset use a 0.833° horizon correction plus a small elevation correction.

Fajr and Isha use the twilight angles selected above. Asr uses the time at which an object’s shadow equals its noon shadow plus one object height, or plus two heights for the Hanafi option. Maghrib is shown at calculated sunset. Solar midnight is the midpoint from sunset to the next sunrise.

Important: Prayer timetables can differ because communities choose different angles, juristic conventions, safety margins, horizon assumptions and high-latitude rules. Coordinates and a numeric UTC offset do not detect daylight-saving changes. Use this result as an astronomical estimate and follow your local mosque or religious authority for observance. At polar latitudes, the tool applies a nearest-latitude convention when needed and labels the result.

Frequently asked questions

Why do two prayer calendars disagree?

They may use different Fajr or Isha angles, Asr shadow factors, minute adjustments, elevation assumptions or high-latitude conventions. A small coordinate or time-zone difference can also shift the displayed time.

Does the UTC offset include daylight-saving time?

Yes. Enter the legal offset that applies on the selected date. The calculator does not look up time-zone rules or location names.

What is the Qibla bearing?

It is the initial great-circle bearing from the entered coordinates toward the Kaaba, measured clockwise from true north. A magnetic compass may need local declination correction.

What happens at high latitudes?

If the Sun does not reach a selected twilight angle, the chosen night-portion rule limits Fajr and Isha. If sunrise or sunset itself cannot be calculated, a transparent nearest-latitude convention at 48.5° is used for the solar estimate.
